Looker +
the Aquisition
In the fall of 2018, I joined Looker Data Science's GTM team with a plan for a Fall 2020 IPO. However, the journey took an unexpected turn, resulting in an acquisition, awards, and exciting developments.
My role involved redefining Looker's brand identity as we transitioned from a Santa Cruz startup to a global leader in Data Technology. We aimed to position Looker as a performance-driven brand focused on delivering tangible outcomes. Our branding campaign included Out of Home and Display advertising, leading to significant website traffic growth and engagement.
In June 2019, Google Cloud acquired Looker for $2.6 billion, and the merger was completed in March 2020. During the pandemic in April 2020, we faced the challenge of aligning Looker with Google Cloud's brand while maintaining our multi-cloud capabilities.
This transformation involved adapting to Google's branding guidelines while preserving Looker's unique identity as an "Endorsed Product" of Cloud within the GCP product set. We successfully migrated assets and provided change management leadership during this transition, ensuring Looker's continued success within the Google Cloud ecosystem.
